A rare PAIR of Gilt and patinated wrought iron occasional tables in the Manner of René Prou (1889-1948). Having inset black slate tops surrounded by a metal apron all raised on four scrolled and twisted legs the top of which are hung with rings. The legs united by circular stretchers centering a quatrefoil motif.

* Rene Prou, a decorator as well as furniture designer, was born in Nantes and educated in Paris. He studied at the Ecole Bernard-Palissy in Paris and shortly thereafter joined the design house, Gouffe. By 1912 he had become their chief designer and was being
called the first decorator of the modern taste (gout moderne).
